National Academy Of ConstructionGovernment of Andhra Pradesh has established the "National Academy of Construction", a unique institution and one of its kind in the country for providing training facilities to the Workmen, Contractors and Engineers to improve their skills, and enable them to handle large infrastructure development projects being taken up in the country both in Public and Private sectors. The Academy through its constituent units gives training to workers in various Construction trades like Masons, Carpenters, Barbenders, Formwork, Plumbers, Electricians, Heavy machinery operators, Painters and in many other trades to improve and develop skills in the respective trades and improve the quality of works. It also trains the contractors to develop professionalism in their trade, Engineers in developing managerial skills and creating awareness in the use of new materials in construction and innovative methods in construction.

The other institutes are established to train Engineers in Highway Engineering, and use of innovative materials in mass housing programs to meet the challenges posed by the large-scale needs of the Housing sector. To create awareness among the Engineers on the aesthetics and other related subjects so that the structures built (like roads, bridges or buildings etc.) are good looking and in harmony with the surroundings, Institute of Architecture and Design are established.

The Academy is the first venture of its kind in the country, where all construction related training programs are organized beneath one umbrella. Government of Andhra Pradesh has allotted 167 acres of prime land in Hyderabad to the Academy. The construction of the building was completed in March 2002 and houses eight institutions covering all sectors of Construction Industry. The Academy also has an auditorium with 500 capacity, seminar rooms, classrooms, hostel block, dormitories, construction material display centre etc. It has a permanent Exhibition centre (HITEX) and Construction Equipment Bank.

The National Academy of Construction is registered as a society under the "Public Societies Registration Act" on 24-9-1998. The Honble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh as Ex-Officio Chairman of the Governing Board.

Training Institute
There are eight institutes under the Academy. Each of the institutes is set up by a Parenting organization identified for the purpose and functions as independent units under the policies laid down by the Governing Board of NAC.

Display Center
In addition to the establishment of training institutes, NAC has constructed a permanent Display Center covering an area of 3500 M2 where the latest construction materials, products in building construction are displayed. This will help in creating awareness amongst Builders, Architects, Consultants, Engineers and even the general public about new building materials available in the market. This would help both the manufacturers in publicizing their product and the user in making a choice of material for his construction. It will also act as an information collection centre, analysis and dissemination centre in Building Materials Industry.

Hitex
As per mission of NAC, it has facilitated establishment of Hyderabad International Trade Exposition Center Ltd. (HITEX), spread over an area of 100 acres with good connectivity and is designed on line of Dusseldorf exhibition as Public Private participation under Build, Own, Operate (BOO).

The first phase has been opened in January 2003 with 3 halls, each of 4000 M2 gross area, open-air display, conference halls, a trade centre and other support services. The HITEX has become landmark exhibition centre in India.

Finances
The source of funds for the Academy is from the Membership fee under various categories, and contribution by the Contractors executing works in Government Departments / Corporations by way of deduction of 0.25% of their gross bill amounts for the work done. The funds so collected will be used for the Capital expenditure on infrastructure development, Capital expenditure incurred by the Institutes on acquiring equipment and also to meet the Operational costs of the Institutes.
